IH 574 Hydraulics

Changed the hydraulic filter and oil on Saturday and now cannot get the hydraulics to work. Steering works but really squeals when turning the wheel. The 3 point and loader will go up but very very slowly and moves maybe an inch at a time with a lull when raising. Prior to changing the fluid it worked well and smoothly. Now appears to be full of air. All my other tractors you bleed the air out of hydraulics by turning steering all the way left and holding for a moment and then cycling to right and do same. I am new to this tractor and first time I changed hydraulic fluid on this tractor. Is there something I am missing or a trick to purging the air on these tractor hydraulics? Thanks for any suggestions or help.

Did you wash out the screen that goes in filter? Could it have ice from being frozen? Is the fluid full? I am guessing the gasket to the steel shell is not leaking since you didn't say anything about that. Might recheck the fluid level again. Just in case it has went down from the filter change.
If that is all good for sure then on the bottom of the MCV the most forward hex nut looking plug take it out. There will be a piece looks stuck up in there. If you can't pull it out, with a clean bucket under the hole have a helper start the tractor and shut it off as soon as it comes out. Then wind some emory cloth on a stick and just briefly polish the bore with a drill running it. I then will with a waste oil pail just have a helper quickly start or turn over the engine to flush out any debris that may be in there. that should get your steering working. If still not working you may have to pull the complete MCV and change the gaskets and o-rings. If you do I would start with the ones where the pump attaches first. Yup this is a messy job. sucks too.
If you don't have a service manual for it I would get one before starting this project.

Check oring on filter housing. They?ll suck air if not sealed properly. Way to tell is if you have even a slight drip when tractor isn?t running you have an air leak when it is running

How much oil did you put back in? They hold like 10 gallons. Also, don't use that cheap oil from TSC, they need the better oil for the more modern tractors. One time when I did mine for a few minutes I had no hydraulics, but then it picked up & has been fine since then.

Thanks to everyone for the suggestions. Took the filter off and changed out oring on the canister and working properly. Thanks again.
