The Farmall M is 80 years old.

Mine's only 79.

My M is 73 years old. My H is 68 years old. The Farmall M is the oldest tractor of the eight tractors I own...most are all pre 1955 tractors except my Kubota which is no spring chicken either being a 1977 model. The M is my biggest workhorse even though it technically does not have the most hp on paper anyway.

That's been my point for a long time. The design will be a hundred years old just shortly. How many other machines can there be that still are beloved and used and admired and put in Christmas parades that old? If you got a letter series Farmall, you got a gem.

(quoted from post at 20:36:05 02/04/19) hummm, if they came out in 1940 don't they have another year to go yet to be 80?

the W4,6 &9 have another year to go for 80th
They came out in 1940 -one year after the Farmalls

Mine is 50727.
If I understand the serial numbers and the casting codes mine rolled out of the factory toward the very end of 1941.

According to the archives, July 15th, 1939 was the build date for the first Farmall M tractor (S/N 501). Mine is 12272, so it was built in March of 1940. It was early enough in production that the engine and chassis serial numbers match. Most of the large castings on it were dated in late December of 1939 or January of 1940. The 1939 Farmall M's always stand out from the rest with the groove in the top of the differential case cover casting and the pogo stick style seat suspension. I have seen a few at shows, but they are few and far between.

The 39s also have a rubber mounted engine at the front. and the gear pattern cast into the trans cover .
I have a 1939 M with 36" split rims and original tires as well as a 1939 H with M&W clutch and 9 speed
I got too many tractors and would consider selling them

My M is SN 529 all the casting codes are 7*10*I so its birthday is coming up soon. It is complete with all the rare parts including a NOS steering wheel. It is missing the 36" split rims and the original stop cable.
