I'm new to this forum but am on several others. I have a question about the proper hydraulic oil level in a 1965 Farmall 504 row crop with TA and PTO. Been restoring the tractor since acquiring it in late 2016. Drained the hydraulic oil a couple months ago and refilled with Hy-Tran but my tractor has no side plug to show when is full (Manual says to fill until it reaches the side hole. The IH operators manual says capacity is 13 gallons. IH shop manual says capacity is 12 gallons. I put 13 in to begin with. I understand a whine is normal for that tractor, but seemed a little too loud for me so I have added two more gallons and it quieted some. Was going by a post in another forum which advised the proper level is 8 inches below the top of the filler hole. The oil level is now 8.5 inches below the top of the hole so could add another gallon or more to reach the 8 inch level. Tractor runs great, 3 pt. works great, but haven't tried the aux. hydraulics yet. Anyone have any wisdom they can share about the proper hydraulic oil level for this tractor?
