Need a good running drop in motor for cust's 756. Tried Franzen's and Bates so far with no luck.

Tractor came in for burnt valve/hd gskt. Been sitting outside ??? years with can over exhaust. Can has rust holes, pulled dipstick ans rain water gushed out.Last 706 w/291 I OH'd got $8000. in the job and that's with a decent eng to start with.
 
8 grand for a C291 over haul . What did they do for 8 grand . Someone got raked over the coals . Ya need to do a little looking as to part prices and machine shop prices . Talk about being ripped off.
 
Was wrong, $7932.49. lol Trucking, mach work $846.25, line bore, bore & fit sleeves,cyl head,con rods. Clutch and related parts, replace both manifolds, rebuild dist, re-core radiator, oil pump, water pump, recon rocker arms and resurface flywheel, (in house, have Van Norman FW mach & valve grinder)install cam brgs, all hoses/misc parts/oil/AF. 50hr labor @ $66.50hr What would this cost at your shop? john
 
To be fair, those aren't all engine repairs... That was to work over the entire tractor.

If you want to talk being raked over the coals, back when I was a kid Dad had to have the 756 overhauled. Dealer said it was going to be $2500 but when the bill showed up it was over $4500. That was around 1990, and ONLY for engine work. Suffice it to say he had a bird, but the dealer wouldn't explain the difference or do anything about it.

The engine doesn't necessarily have to be a C291 and it doesn't have to have come out of a 756. A C263 will get the tractor running and driving, and a C301 is another option.
 
Thank You for your kind words,repair costs today are getting stupid. O-ring for the front PTO quill on 1466 is $30 from CNH, buy the whole kit w/double lipped seals for that price from Ag Parts. Turn 62 this year and contemplating "hanging it up". john
