^to 12 volts

yes the"kit" would be take the starter to a shop and have go thru it with new brushes, bearing and bushing maybe even replace the drive. Then good battery and cables and maybe you will not need to go to 12v.Too many times I have found starters in bad shape after 12v caused problems and if the starter was in good repair and along with cables battery the change was not needed. Have you ever seen a commutator that has been converted over to 12v because it needed refreshing before the switch so I would get the starter refreshed before going to 12v then when the change is done you will have a starter that will last a long time

don't think there is an actual kit, the 12 volt starters have different field windings is what I presume. what gene says is true repair the starter and 6 volts works perfectly. that small engine spins like crazy with 6 volts , so don't know why 12 volts is needed.

A 6 volt starter can be used with a 12 volt battery. However, engaging the starter for lengthy periods, is damaging. That's what will burn up the starter. Engine should be tuned up so it starts on a couple three cranks of the engine. That will almost eliminate burning up damage and starter will still last a long time. If engine not kept tuned up and you have to grind and grind on the starter every time you start the tractor, your starter might not last long if you do that.

Lights, ampe meter, cables, have to be change. Generator changed to alternater. 12 to 6 volt reducer best thing to do with wire going to coil and points.

Not needed! As long as it is in good condition your 6 volt starter will work fine on 12 volts.

FWIW I converted my Super M to 12 volts 35+ years ago - the original starter is still going strong.

In addition to what Rich's Toys said, you don't need to change starter cables unless the old are already worn out. Cables used with an original 6 volt system are already bigger size than cables normally used with an original 12 volt system.

you will have to switch the wires on the amp gage if you switch polarity or the gage will read backwards. Other wise nothing to really change. Except as said the generator to an alternator. Or reworked to a 12volt model generator.
