The gas tank on my 550 Canadian Cockshutt is wet where the baffle is spot welded on the left side. I was wondering what the best way to fix this
is,possibly braze it? I was also wondering if anyone has installed Charlynn power steering on a 550? Thanks DTK.

Hi - I saw your post. I'm a Cockshutt person as well as Farmall collector. The baffle inside the tank may have had a spot weld break loose due to vibration, etc. It's very dangerous to weld or blaze a gas tank. However, you can drain the gas, remove the tank from the tractor, flush the tank with lots of water and then let it dry completely. It can it be brazed at that point. I would test it before installing back in tractor. Good Luck and BE CAREFUL!

doesn't matter who made your tank. its a good thread to have in this section
I think you should get a pro to fix your tank
Here is a link to the Miller Welding forum. interesting thread IMHO

Thanks for the help guys. I do have the tank drained, washed out and dry . I think it should be safe to braze. But I wanted some extra advice. Thanks again. DTK

I would use a gas tank sealer, made just for this type of problem. It’s a paint made for gas tanks, comes in quart cans. Most parts stores sell them. I have had very good luck with them!
