Hydraulic pump mystery

hydraulic pump-a real mystery .

Some of you have offered help with the issue I have with the hydraulic pump on my 424 gas burner. This problem has taken an interesting [ to me at least ] turn. The pump is a Thompson 368633R9 . It needs a new oil seal which I ordered and appears to be correct . Upon disassembly The small cap became misaligned in the end of the gear and seemed to be under tension when I straightened it back up in its seat in the end of the gear .I subsequently jarred it and it fell onto the shop floor but I found it but no ball which I assumed it had because it is a check valve . I also removed the odd looking spring [ darker TENSION spring with long tail ] from within the gear hollow . I assumed this spring was broken and somehow pushed against a ball in the hollow in the shaft . I referred to the schematic of the pump and it shows a COMPRESSION spring [ the shiny one pictured ] and an 11/32 ball bearing . Subsequently I ordered the spring by the correct part number through parts depot [ INTERNATIONAL lists it as unavailable ]. I assumed the new spring would look like the dark funny shaped one in photo that I removed from the pump and thought was broken . The new spring arrived and it appears just like the one in the schematic and is the listed part number in the schematic but WILL NOT FIT in the hollow of the shaft and absolutely is the wrong one for the pump I have . I am now speculating that my pump is somehow different than other pumps of the same model .I believe that the tension spring actually runs through the shaft and the straight end actually hooks into the cap and PULLS the cap against the shoulder of the recessed shaft . At this point I am not even sure there ever was a ball as I disassembled pump over a container and never found one . I have included photos of these parts and have connected the spring to the cap as I theorize it would appear inside the shaft . One last thing is that IF there was a ball I think it would actually have had to sit on top of the cap OUTSIDE THE SHAFT . In other words the sequence would be spring -cap-ball . This seems unlikely and I lean towards the theory that this check valve was designed without a ball bearing.. I realize this is long and confusing but if anyone out there has ever run into this I would appreciate the info. In the end I will probably have to buy a new pump but this has just become a challenge I want to understand . If pictures do not post I will send in subsequent post .

Looking at Caseih parts online. I find the part number you are posting should be 368633R92 This supersedes to a 376993R94
The part number they show for the spring is 381370R1. I would doubt you can still buy much for parts for the pump since most times by the time you need to work on them they are usually shot.
