Farmall 300

Tuesday we got 8.6 inches of snow. I spent about three hours moving It with my 300 with a loader. My question is, the temp gauge barely got to the edge of the green run area, is that pretty normal or do I need a new thermostat? It was about 25 degrees here today. Thanks in advance.

I think it's pretty normal. when it's cold outside, because it's got a pretty healthy bypass built into the thermostat housing. My M didn't move much today either !

I put a piece of newspaper or cloth over the grill in the winter time to help the engine warm up. The fan will hold it in place until the engine is shut off.

Fired my Super H up yesterday for the first time in 2-3 months to push our 11 inches of snow. Only took about a half hour with the 80 inch wide blade on the loader. Have a piece of the Koehn tractor cab enclosure Dad had on the 450 & 4010 back in the 1960's. He had an upholstery shop hem it up, put brass grommets in it, but I hold it on with a tarp strap. It's a woven plastic material similar to the cheap plastic tarps only much better quality. Took about 10 minutes for the tractor to get up to 160 degree operating temp, was about 17 degrees temp out. If temp is in the 20's I have to fold the top 4-5 inches down to keep the tractor from over-heating.

New thermostat or old, these old Farmalls will Never get up to operating temp without the air flow thru the radiator blocked off in cold weather. If you were putting a good load on the engine maybe, but I push snow at 900-1000 rpm in 1st & 2nd gear.

I used to advertise for FS Feeds back in the 1960's, fold an empty paper feed sack so the big FS showed nice and centered. In spring 1972 Dad started driving fuel transport for FS, retired about 1980. But the FS feed mill ground all our hog feed, supplied all our creep feed for the pigs, cattle supplements, and gas, oil, and grease, and hog equipment, feeders, and water tanks. I even drove delivery truck for the mill during Christmas vacation couple years when I was in college. Dad was always good about getting me paid work during school breaks.

We used to put a piece of carpet over the front of the MD in the winter then off in warmer months. The H will not hardly move temperature in the summer.

My regular H doesn't even get up to temperature in the summer time unless its doing something like plowing.

You Might need a new thermostat! I put a new one in my Super H about 1975, a lotta years ago but not that many operating hours ago.
