C281 spark plug adapters.

Went to change plug today and noticed some
bushings or adapters on 2 of them, closer
look at motor found the other 2 still in
head. Removed them and noticed all 4 were
scaled up so bad the hole was plugged with
scale...question is do i need these
adapters?

I think what you are looking at is some type of recess adapter, so if it uses oil, the plug doesn't foul out with oil so quick.

If it is for the oil to not foul the plug it must be really bad. I have always just used a wider gap for that problem in the past. If gas fouled just put a baling wire jumper on the outside of the plug to the plug wire a gap of about a 1/4 inch will clean the fouled plug right up.

When i was a teen they had them at the parts store...i think they were called Foul Outs. I had a Malibu that got Baptized in the creek and it started using so much oil the plugs would foul regular.

I bought one for the bad cylinder... before it was over i had them in 5 cylinders. Motor finally wouldn't stay running due to low compression and to the junk yard it went.
