painted and back together

This is the tractor that I was working on the steering, and installed the big bushing/bearing in the bolster. My friend Bill painted the tin and stopped by yesterday to help me get it back together without scraping the paint. This is my hay raking tractor and my neighbor said I would probably miss rows due to glare from the paint. Thought you all might enjoy a shiny object on such a dreary day. Ellis

Hey Ellis, what size rear tires do you have on that M. I have 11.2 on a M that are small for the tractor but it's what I have. Just curious.

A seat with a back can be safer too.

My wife was moving some brush using a spring harrow. It jammed and the tractor started rearing up. She pushed in the clutch and the harrow freed up sending the tractor moving down the slight grade.

She ended up with some bruising from the seat back. I bet she would have been tossed off the tractor with a pan seat.

Looks nice. I have an M too. I like my rear caste centers dished out, rather than in. I just think they look nicer dished out, and if they are dished out they can be bolted in further on the axel for less axel strain. Seat looks comfortable. Not sure how I would get along with it. Looks like it put me to close to the steering wheel. I like the extra room with the pan seat bolted back a ways.

I have three M Farmalls. I run two dished in and one dished out because it is easier to deal with wheel weights. I have often wondered if dished out caused more wear on the axle bearings? Might be a good question to ask the gurus. All three of my tractors are running new inner and outer axle bearings. Dished in is just perfect for me to use a Land Pride 35-90 finish mower. I have room to stand up between the seat and to steering wheel, and it is very comfortable. I have the same seat on all three tractors. Ellis

I bought it from K and M manufacturing in Minn. I have just looked at their website and cannot find the seat. It is called an IH comfort seat. I bought it
from their booth at the farm machinery show in Louisville in 1987. Back then it cost $89.00. The 4 bolt holes lined up perfectly. Ellis
