oil filter problem farmall 434

While changing the oil and filter for the first time, the canister was leaking at the bottom of the bolt. Looking at the parts catalogue, there is an o ring above the collar and bolt which I will replace. I also noticed a guide, seal circlip washer and spring which are not included on my assembly. Are these parts necessary inside the canister? Do they apply pressure to the new filter for a better seal? Also will any o ring work to stop the leak below the canister or is it specific to the 434 Farmall?

Thanks for your comments in advance. Robert

With the internal parts missing, oil is free to bypass the filter unfiltered, NOT good!

Parts catalog shows 3 different filter bases were used, Purolator, Tecalemit, and AC Delco.

While they are similar, the sealing rings for the bolts and the internal parts differ, if I remember correctly, the AC Delco uses a simple O-ring and the others use a special washer.

I have a 424 that had a cracked filter base, I bought a spin-on filter base on ebay and made an adapter to fit it to the engine from a block of aluminum.

There MAY be some ready-to-install adapter kits out there, would be an easy solution to both of your problems,

Hi, I am with Bob, if you can find a reasonably priced spin on replacement, I would replace it.
The original were a PITA as bits of the top O-ring would stick in the groove in the filter base and you who have to pick it out.
Also if someone over tightened the filter canister holding bolt it would warp the filter base and leak.

(quoted from post at 11:02:45 01/14/19) the 434 Farmall?

Thanks for your comments in advance. Robert
You prolly won't thank me for my reply......just for the record there isn't a tractor that is a Farmall 434

Not sure if this will post. I believe the tecalemit filter canister replacement on this site may solve the problem, but i'm not sure. I don't know if it will fit my housing.

Yes the 434 was a popular tractor in South Louisiana. It was typically used as a drain trenching tractor in our cane fields. I can send a picture by text if you like. I'm not up to snuff on how to post a pic on this site.

Thanks again to all

Yes the 434 was a popular tractor. but its not a Farmall. The only reason I brought it up is that there is so much almost correct info on the internet.

Wonder why one company had to use several names, gets to the point of being SILLY.

Oh, well it didn't work out too well, now they go by FIAT!
