Good Day with the H

Needed to clear my gravel road today and the H did the job.

H looks good yet goofy with those wide wheels.
Why does everybody turn the dish out on the rear wheels? Stability is just a myth. Ours are set for 60 inch tire centers for 30 inch rows. All of our tractors. They take a lot more shed space like that.

I take some friendly exception to the statement that "Stability is just a myth." If and when you roll one, especially one without a ROPS, you'll find out that the issue of stability is real. I knew a guy who spent the rest of his shortened life in a wheelchair.

First thing Dad did to my '54 Stage 2 Super H when it was delivered was set the cast wheels in right next
to the axle carriers, then cut about 4 inches off the axles so they didn't reach out and grab every barn
door or fence post we drove by. That was May 8th 1968, 50+ years ago and last 25 with a loader on it
with NFE, tractor has NEVER been on it's side. STABILITY is an ATTITUDE, not a rear tread width or wfe
front axle. Never cared for Farmall rear wheels dished IN. Wheel weights look stupid hanging out there on
them. If we sprayed or cultivated, or knifed in 28% with either of my Farmall's they would probably be
set for 30 inch rows.

Thanks Jim. I keep it inside but in an unheated barn and it fired right up. Love it.

I don't do any row cropping so 60" means nothing to me. I do a lot of side hill mowing and stability is more important to me than looking goofy. The wheels are set so that the axles do not stick out beyond the edge of the wheels. Too easy to catch something when I'm mowing between trees or buildings if they stick out. Also in the barn which has a concrete floor my grandkids enjoy riding their scooters all around and again axles sticking out are just another hazard. BTW Cummins builds a better engine. :D

I feel for the guy who was in the wheelchair. However I think 'stabilty' is more of a common sence thing. Not just a wide front thing.I have a loader on an narrow front M. Yes,it is a bit more 'tippy' than the wide front was. You make allowances. If a guy is going to roll a narrow front tractor,he most likely would have rolled the wide front tractor as well. They are both '3 point suspension'. Only difference is the pivot is 2 ft higher off the ground.Same thing with hillsides. If it's too steep for a narrow,it's too steep for a wide.IMHO,wide vs narrow stability issue is mostly an 'optical illusion'.

Yea, my front yard looks like a frog pond. Guess it'll freeze over this weekend.

Nice rig!
