1966 IH 504 Diesel with D188

Hi,

I just picked up an old 504 with the D188 diesel engine. I have a couple questions I hope you smart people can answer.

1) I have a IH 2504 industrial with the 3000 loader on it, and it looks like it would bolt right onto my 504 (the gas engine on the industrial is tired and on it's last leg) Would the loader and backhoe from the industrial bolt onto the 504?

2) glow plugs ... Will those just unscrew right out of the head on the d188? any way to do resistance reading on them or best to just replace??

Thank you in advance for any advice. and once the loader and hoe are off the industrial I will be will to sell it whole or parts.

The glow plugs have 3/8 X 24 fine thread and go into each injector. Best way to check is remove them and use a 12 volt battery or charger, the probe end will glow red after a few seconds if the plug is good. Have you heard the diesel run? If not, and it's set awhile it MAY have stuck internal injection pump parts. Have been repairing more older pumps in that shape lately.

The engine runs great I used it to drag a rock rake around my 5 acre property for about 3 hours yesterday. I just don't like that it doesn't seem willing to start without a little spray of starting fluid.

504 and 2504 are same tractor. 504 is agriculture model, usually has PTO and 3 point hitch, adjustable width front axle and Torque Amplifier . 2504 is the Industrial model, could or could not be equipped with ag. related features. It could have special forward and reverse gear shifting which I think gives it a reverse in all 5 forward speeds. This was usually seen on an industrial tractor with loader. Loader will interchange perfectly to ag. model 504.

AWESOME!
Thanks, I am looking forward to putting that 3000 loader on the 504 diesel, and having the backhoe as one heck of a tough implement. When the gas engine on the 2504 was running good that backhoe was a tough rig, I assume will be even better with the diesel power.

Any advice, or thoughts of what to watch out for when moving the loader to the 504? totally out of my realm here so a little nervous but excited at the potential for the end product.

Check the bolts that hold the steering linkage at the center of the axle. They loosen up and the casting breaks, just check them. BTDT
