My 340 had a backhoe and it has been removed. What amount of counter do I need with the 2000 loader to make it work under a load? :?:

If you use a barrel, leave five or six inches empty at the top. I makes a great place to carry a chain, hammer, grease gun, other miscellaneous stuff. Cut a few small drain holes so it doesn't fill up with water. If you want to get fancy, make a hinged cover for it as well.

Thanks for the ideas. The 55 gallon barrel looks like my best bet. I like the way you added the rear hitch. Nice trick. :)

Problem is wit ha barrel full of concrete is it is just that and is weight only so ties up the 3 point if you have one with weight only. My self I have 2 of those barrels and neither one ha been on a tractor in over 30 years. I use things like a back blade with suit case weights or a disk with a lot of weight on it. My Ford 841S has a back blade on it and 6 85lbs suit case weights on the blade. My IH584 has a disk on it with 2 Farmall H wheel weight on the disk bot those tractor have loader by the way and the best part is you can use the blade for leveling out stuff you just dumped with the loader

My preference is a 55 gallon barrel filled with concrete after doing the metal fabrication for your bottom links and top link attachment. They are narrower than an implement on the three point for better manueverability in tight places. When using a barrel put the bottom links through the front third of the barrel, not the center. This gives 1. more effective counter weight; after all it's all about leverage and angles and 2. better clearance to leave the draw bar in its normal fore/aft position. For more weight use small pieces of steel in the concrete as steel is heavier than concrete. I added another bar going through the barrel in case one wants/needs to add more weight.

I would say that weight close to the back hoe would be reasonable. The 2000 pound area seems OK. Hanging it on axle brackets would be best such that the mass is centered about at the rear extent of the rear tires. Farther back works better, but causes restrictions in ability to maneuver easily in tight spaces. Jim
