MD Cam Thrust

I'm installing the cam thrust plate on my MD. There are two oil grooves milled in one side. Should the plate be installed with the oil grooves toward the cam or cam gear? It was installed previously with the grooves toward the gear but, the engine has been into before and I want to make sure it is installed correctly. The service manual doesn't mention orientation.

grooves towards the gear.as that is your thrust plate for camshaft end play. endplay should be .005-.013 and if its too much then need to replace thrust plate. the plate is stationary so need grooves for the oil when rotating against the gear. not mentioned because mechanic's should be knowing this. they will not go into every little detail.

Thanks. I guess that confirms I'm not a mechanic.
