F20 belt pulley shaft seal installation

I bought the seal a couple of years ago. Today is the day to put it in. Do you put it in dry or do you soak it in oil first? I doubt that I will use the PTO and so I thought about packing it with grease. It quit leaking. That's good, right? HAHA

I'm confused. Are you sealing up the belt pulley, or the PTO? If it quit leaking, why are you sealing it?

The belt pulley shaft.
When you turn on the Pto, the belt pulley is also turned on.
When you run out of oil, it stops leaking. It's empty.

I understand, now. I've been told to put some oil on the packing, so as not to "burn" it.

I ended up tightening up the adjusting nut. It looked so close to the end of it's travel that I thought that it was as tight as it could go. Naturally,, I was wrong again. Hopefully it is tight enough now that it will not need to have the new seal installed.
