I often thought about that too,but don't thing IHC kept those records ! The only thing some Dealers did fill out the front part of the owner's manuale with the selling dealer and serial number.

Some dealers kept records of the serial numbers they sold. Since 30 years later since the abolishin of IHC a lot of the dealers don't exist and the records are lost.

Some dealers don't keep records for long period. The local IH dealer maybe kept them for 10 years max. Then there is the other extreme where a friend was trying to track a serial number on a 47 baler which the dealer confirmed that they had sold new some 40 years prior. This was a dealer that got cancelled during the merger and really had no incentive to hang onto old paperwork from at the time 20 years prior to the merger.

IHC did maintain records of that nature, but most were lost during the merger.
