does anyone know if the fuel sending unit float can be purchased by itself? if so does anyone have a part number or website? I cant even seem to find a complete sending unit online even. so does anyone have any numbers on that? I don't have a local dealer anymore, havnt in many many years so I cant just pop in and ask them unfortunately....

the float is all I really need. tired of forgetting to put a stick in the tank to check the fuel level before heading out, and then run out of diesel in the field. they are a pain to get restarted. :)

Sender is still available, about $100 at the dealer, part # 143557A1.

Float is not listed separately.

I have repaired many "senders" needing a float with a brass float from a Ford car dealership, available on-line, as well, part #COAZ-9202-B, should not be over $10.

If you call these guys they can send you a new sender unit for a reasonable price. D&D truck and trailer. 989 743 5707 Corunna MI. You will either talk to the owner or the one hired parts guy both are good.
I have no dog in the fight and have only bought parts there for about 25 years.

Hi, are you 100% sure the problem is the float? Those 54/74/84 tractors have only one ground connection at the rear and it is a
ground lug that goes onto to a bolt that holds the deck plate on, under the rear of the seat. If this ground connection becomes
corroded then you will have varying fuel gauge readings.

it is the float, its plastic and where it clips into the metal rod it has split. if I manually operate it , the gauge works as it should. also I ordered the brass float, it almost looks like the original plastic one. I think it will work good. I will know this weekend if the shipping tracking is correct.

I appreciate the help everyone. It will be nice to just get on and look at the gauge to know how much fuel I have before heading out.

and in my defense, this tractor is used by my brother, several work hands and my self so I never know how much fuel is really in it when I get on it.

got it in on Friday night, installed it Saturday day and it worked perfectly. it was almost an exact replacement except in brass. if anything it might have been 1/16th or less smaller in diameter than the factory one. I didn't have to tweak the wire rod it mounted to or anything it was a tight snap back in place fit.
thank you very much for that part number.
