IH Distributor mystery

The IH distributors have two plugs which per the operator manuals are supposed to be removed and replaced with zerks for greasing the drive unit and distributor shaft. In the last number of years I have worked on a SA, SC, SH, H and C. The distributors on all have had a long (2") bronze bushing in the shaft drive housing that the distributor shaft rides in. This bushing blocks the grease fitting hole. The manual says to apply grease until it oozes out of the small hole opposite the fitting. This of course is not possible due to the hole being blocked. What's up here? Is the bushing an oilite type that requires no grease? I could drill a small hole to allow the grease to reach the shaft...

Grease fills around the bushing, bushing was made of a material so the lube soaked through it. When grease exited the hole the cavity was filled. Something blocking the cavity if grease won't exit the small hole. Prefer to use a needle tip on a grease gun for the gear box hole myself. If a fitting is used and over greased the pressure could send it where not wanted. If to much is used with needle tip it comes back out the hole.
