Anyone on this forum have any experience with an Avery? I've never done anything but Farmalls and I may have the opportunity to take possession of a neighbors Avery A that belonged to his dad. It's a complete tractor with good sheet metal and in the shed since his dad died back in the early 80's. I posted on the miscellaneous tractor forum and all I got was a response that parts were non-existant in Central Texas where the guy was from. I'd like to have it as an unusual parade tractor (it's the only one I've seen here in North Mississippi. But if all it's good for is to take up shed space I may have to pass.

I think Avery was absorbed by Minneapolis-Moline? Don't quote me on that. It also seems like Avery used engines built by either Continental, or maybe Hercules?

I sure wouldn't turn down the opportunity to own it.I am from Iowa ,and my wife and I bought an avery model a with a planter and cultivator about a year ago. It doesn't run but it is loose. Hoping to start on it this winter. Most general parts are available like wheels, guages, etc. Some things can be found on ebay,or a donor tractor. They are not real common here either, but a few are around. There is a Minneapolis Moline and also a tractor called the general that is the same tractor if I remember correctly.Good luck.

Yes, this one has a planter set on the left side of it. The rear end looks wider than what I see in pictures as if it is a two-row tractor. And, I think you're right. I'll take it for the right price.

originally built by Cleveland tractor co of cletrac fame as the general. later built by BF Avery in KY and later some very similar by MM after purchase of BF. fairly simple little tractor and should be plenty of used parts around. I'd buy it for right price if you.

I have an Avery A with cultivator and planter.
I believe they started out as a Cleveland General. Montgomery Ward sold them as a Twin Row. Maybe a couple other names and finally as a MM BF.
One thing to check is the mounting of the frame to the transaxle assemble. It seems to be common for these and other tractors like the Massey Harris 81 with a channel frame to have cracked or broken mount brackets. It's my theory it's caused by the engine torque flexing the frame. My Avery A and a MH 81 I used to have both had "framer welds" at the mountings.
The Avery had a bolt as re-enforcement which was welded over the serial number. It was such a poor weld, I was able to remove the weld and recover the serial number. While disassembling the tractor, the left frame rail feel off on the ground because the left frame mounting bracket was broken.

landis zimmerman in ephrata , pensylvania should have all the engine parts as cletrac made the tractor before avery . it's a hercules engine . nice little tractor .
