We came across a hydro 70 Gas. Are they any good? This tractor has a loader on it. What is a fair price on this tractor. The tires need to be replaced. Especially the rears. They look to be 15.5 38. Not sure though.

They are a good tractor. What is overall condition of tractor?Lot of variables here.Hydro's are the way to go if it's going to be a chore/loader tractor. If it is in good running condition and engine/hydro are solid I would guess between 4500.00 to 8500.00 depending on geographical location.Tires can be expensive if bought new.The diesels are more desireable.I have a 1977 686 with the D312 diesel, gear drive with a factory mount-o- matic loader, bought it with 4800 hrs on the clock and paid 8400.00

Condition and location are major factors. Around here, gas hydros are a dog on the market. Nobody wants them because they have a bad reputation for being down on power and absolute fuel hogs. You would not be able to give away a gas hydro with bad tires around here... MAYBE $2500 if you get two people who are emotionally attached to the tractor bidding against each other.

A bad hydro can run you $5000+ to get repaired, and you can't just get them repaired at any red dealer anymore. If you want it done right you have to send it to one of a couple different places around the country.

They WERE a good tractor, in their day, when they were new. But that was 40 years ago. A real cherry one can still be a good tractor, but a clapped out one can be a real money pit.

Have a 656 hydro, but it is a diesel. I like the hydro for baling hay with the square baler, raking, and tedding. This one doesn't have a loader on it. Also have a 666 gas gear drive. I believe other than being a gear drive versus hydro is pretty much the same as a hydro 70. This one does have a loader, but the loader is a lot older than a 2250. Use it for loading and moving round bales and plowing snow in winter. Also use it to help make hay. Had a little over 2200 hours on it when I bought it. Has 18.4x34 tires on it, which I replaced about 4 years after I bought it. The others were 16.6x34 and were pretty much shot. Ran them til one blew a hole in it. I paid $5600 when I bought it. Mine is also a 75.
