Pictures can help but there is a casting date under the belly. You can also get the
serial number from the engine block, I forget which side but it is towards the front
and high on a flat raised area.

Check the casting date under the belly of the main case. That should get you pretty close. The serial number on the engine block matches the serial number plate, on some of them.

crawl under it and look under clutch area and you will see the day, month and year stamped there. IHC made no attempt to match engine numbers with tractor numbers. more accurate to go by the year underneath, as engine to frame numbers can be a long way off. if you actually found one with matching numbers you won the lottery! I do know the W12,W14 had matching numbers though, as they were a low production model.

I don't mean to hi-jack this thread But on my 10-20 the SN on the tag under gas tank shows it to be 1930- the stamp date underneath shows it a 1927,should I check the engine SN?

the tractor year stamp and the tag years should be matching. it is possible the tag might have been changed from another tractor, as it only riveted on. the 10-20 was one of the highest production tractors with over 200,000 units. see what engine # says.
