Froze Cub Engine

Ive got a 1950 Cub Farmall engine that WASA froze up. I got it loose finally, but the valves were stuck. I got them loose also, manually, but when i turn the crankshaft, the valves dont move. What could be the problem? Could there be a timing chain that broke? AND IF SO, where can I find a new one?

Are the valves stuck open, or a mix of open and closed?

If that's the case, you must have broken a cam gear or possibly the camshaft, as there's no timing chain.

If all the valves are close or not moving then you have big problems. Of course no matter what you should have a few valves open or you have a big cam problem. If when you turn the engine over no valves move then you have a broken timing gear or broken cam shaft or if it has a key way the key could be broken. If you do by chance have ALL the valves close then it has to either be missing the cam shaft or it is broken

You may be aware there is a website and forum specifically for Farmall Cubs: farmallcub.com. They have an active and friendly forum and you should be able to get some helpful advice there.

I removed that tin plate. Had to to try to free up the valves. Im not going to do anything else
with it till it either hits 50 again, or comes springtime.
Gene, Ill keep you in mind for parts. Thanks.

A good soak with some marvel mystery oil has helped me solve some flathead valve stick issues. You can generally reach the stems (at least the open ones!) from the spark plug holes.

A good sunny day with minimum wind can help you quite a bit.
