Cub Plugs/wires

Whats the best plugs and wires to use for a '51 Cub with a Mag. The wires in the YT store don't say if they're solid or not. I thought I saw somewhere
that Autolite 3116 plugs work(which are the ones I used to run in my JD A). Are they still a good non-fouling plug like they were 20 years ago? Thanks.

My understanding of plug choice is that it depends on what you plan to do with the tractor. Are you looking to work the tractor? You need a cooler plug. Are you just puttering around? You need a hotter plug.

Pretty much everyone has condemned the Champions at this point, and Autolite 3116 is one of the ones I've seen recommended. Also Autolite 386. Can't remember which is the cooler or hotter plug offhand, though.

With a Magneto Ignition I highly recommend use of a NON RESISTOR plug. One of those happens to be an Autolite 3116. Its heat range is in the vicinity of the RESISTOR 386 and slightly hotter 388. Similar with a Magneto I prefer solid wire core NOT carbon core suppressor plug wires. Im NOT pushing any one brand over another Im ONLY saying use whatever brand is a NON Resistor is my preference but do as you please.....

If you want the best wire I would use this.
#B9922-001, 7mm Packard 440 Original Type OEM General Motors Product, Same as Previously Sold by AC Delco. Made with tinned copper core & EPDM, Silicone Insulation with CPE Jacket) MANUFACTURED IN THE USA.

I know a lot of people here don't like Champion plugs but I have 10 of the old guys and everyone has Champion plugs and I've never had a problem, including my 47 Cub. They are all D21 plugs except my W30 and F14 which has W20 plugs but I think they are the same heat range. My tractors range from plowing to just pulling a wagon around and I've never had a plug problem. Regardless of which brand you buy you need to have at least one heat range higher than that found in the manual with todays gas.

You want good old fashioned Delco Packard 440 wire and either the autolite or a C 86 A/C plug . The D 21 is way to hot and if you are fouling plugs then you have other issues like a plum wore out engine that is sucking oil .

I would use brillman for wire sets they have three sets available for magneto ,talk to John brillman.
I have use Ngk ab6 in my Farm-all CS,.
I have used champion d 16 I think no problem or ac 86 , might be wrong on that numbers.
I when I have had plug problems it was cause something else wrong in the combustion area , not plugs.
