Farmall 450 Transaxle/TA... to flush or not?

I'm going to change out the oil in Charlene's rear end. The manual says to flush with 15 gallons of fuel oil. I've seen old Cat Skinners do the same on their dozers.

Should I flush out the transaxle after draining it or not?

Why or why not?

Thanks.

If it has been years or not at all before this. I would not bother unless you are going to pull the top off. Reason I say this is the oil channels on the sides of the case will not clean up with just a flush unless you run it for an awful long time. The channels will need to be scraped out with a scraper to get the old deposits out. These channels flow the oil to the bearings as it is slung around by the gears.
You could use a thinner oil like a hytran type for the washout by running it for a few months or so then drain and fill with other oil then. Might clean it up that way.

Agree with Cat guy, If there's a bunch of crap in there it's hard enough to get it all out even when disassembled. Besides the troughs to bull pinion and differential bearings mentioned. Passage from front of left side trough to t/a lube passage to t/a trough also traps oil that doesn't drain. Also area above the tee plate on bottom of center housing and a few other areas doesn't drain all with a normal oil change. If no metal is found, best to leave alone. If metal mixed with oil best to remove top and start looking.

One more dumb question...is the PTO connected to the transaxle, regarding the oil? The manual said it takes 2 qts, but wasnt clear...to me, if i have to drain it too or just pull the drain plugs under T/A and trans.

If i do drain it does it have to be filled from the pto side, or just fill from the top of the gearbox?

Thanks

Here's a photo of rear of my 450 tractor. Below the breather on left side are two plugs. The bottom one is
drain and smaller top one is the fill and check plug.
