IH 504 High Clear

Buying a 504 HC with an IH 2000 loader tomorrow...john good shape overall except it takes a touch of choke to smooth out the engine...probably some grit blockage of the choke plate set wrong.
Starts, shifts, lifts really nice...and it is a beefy thing for only 40 HP. Any big pitfalls with these?

They look like a big tractor but can t do a big tractor job. Check the inside of the tank for rust. I cleaned the carb bowl and the sediment bowl a lot before I got mine running right. I finally pulled the tank and cleaned it good(muric acid) and it ran fine after that. after all of that run a bottle of Seafoam through it.

Okay, something to check thanks. I don't need it to do big tractor work...I have a 3020 for that. Actually got it because of the loader to do some ocaisional light stuff...got a loader and 40HP tractor for $2500 and it runs, shifts, lifts pretty well.

I think that is what they call a high utility tractor. You have a utility tractor frame with rear wheels from a row crop tractor. The front axle is also taller so the tractor sets level. When you set on the seat your legs straddle the transmission cast like a utility style tractor. The row crop tractor you sit much higher and the transmission cover is much wider and flat. A very unique tractor enjoy.

So I found this out from another thread.

"The S is Live PTO,The x is high speed low & reverse Attachment, the Y for the Hydra touch is a 12 Gallons a Minute Pump. The FF is Hydraulic Power supply with a 4,5 GPM pump."

Is the HydraTouch like Touch Control in a Farmall and the Power supply is the actual hydraulic pump?

Do you suppose this tractor had these yellow arms added to the original frame? Assuming the yellow came off an industrial version

It is conceivable that the original loader arms were jacked up in some sort of abuse incident, and the current arms and bucket are from another loader. You'll never know for sure, but it is an opportunity to come up with a good story for how it happened to tell people who point out the yellow arms and ask.

As to your previous questions, HydraTouch is just IH's branding for their hydraulic system at the time. That was primarily on the previous 40/60 series, though. Most likely the Y just indicates the 12GPM hydraulic pump.

These tractors could often have a 12GPM pump with a second 4.5GPM pump "piggybacked" on to it to give you a total hydraulic flow of 16.5GPM. Sounds like that is what your tractor was originally equipped with, though that could have changed in the past 55 years.
