Use 3 terminal regulator in place of 4 terminal

Afternoon all

I recently picked up a NOS regulator for my Farmall Super C, got tired of having the ones I had previously bought only working for a couple of weeks. The only catch is its a 3 terminal instead of 4 terminal. I believe all I need to do is change the wire to go from the fuse to the ammeter instead of to the non-existent load terminal.

Is this correct? I really don't want to mess up and cook it.

Thanks!

You are correct. Were it mine, I would connect the Wire to the load terminal to the bat terminal along with The Bat wire. Thus doubling the current carrying capacity from the gen to the lights, ignition, and battery. It is also simpler. Jim

Relocate the wire from the "L" terminal on the old regulator to the ammeter "load" post.

Uncertain which ammeter post is the "load"? Connect the L wire to either post, then turn on the ignition or lights. If the ammeter shows discharge your have found the load post. But if the ammeter remains centered simply relocate the load wire to the opposite ammeter post.

Tip: Make sure the regulator base has a GOOD ground! If uncertain, run a dedicated ground wire from the regulator base to the grounded battery post.
