International 240

Thanx for battery box info, I'll just do my thing. More questions 're gears and hydraulics. My tractor seems to be a three speed but owner manuals refer to it as four. The manuals cover several models so I presume are some what generic and is three.
There is a filler cap located above the hydraulic pump on the right side. I presume this is for hyd. fluid but there is no place to check level and no oil visable but the hydraulics still operate the three point. How do you check level.

The filler cap on the right side at the front of the engine is engine oil.
The hydraulic oil fill plug is a large hex plug located on the clutch housing (torque tube).

There was only one transmission option in the 240, a 4-speed forward, 1-speed reverse transmission. IH did not play games like Ford, offering umpteen different transmission options.

IIRC it shifts like the Super A and C, backwards of everything else. 4th is down and far left, 3rd is up and far left, 2nd is down and middle, 1st is up and middle, reverse is down and right.

If you can't hit all four forward speeds, something is wrong.

The multi-model manual you are referring too must be the TC-53 Part Catalog which does include the IHC models 200 and 230 in addition to the
240 Farmall and International models. The IHC 240 tractors does have it's own Operator's Manual which is specific to just the Farmall 240
(row crop model) and the International 240 (utility model) tractors. The points you are seeking information on are very well noted and
defined in the model specific "240 Operator's Manual". The noted Operator's Manual for 240 tractors is easily obtained from sources on eBay
or better yet from Binder Books and maybe even this site offers them for sale. You will find one very helpful as there are several
differences on the 240 tractors that are somewhat different then the earlier models they replace especially in the various available hitching
devices and hydraulic system. Hope you enjoy your tractor and trust you will find the Operator's Manual quite helpful, Hal.
