Farmall 806

I bought an 806 that has sat for several years. Got it running and it has no power steering or brakes. The owner told me he had problems with it loosing prime on the steering. I changed the filter and filled the fluid and it is gets a little resistance on the steering wheel but still no power steering. Any help would be appreciated.

Try putting extra 5 gallons hyd. In that will cover an oring between the speed and range trans if it works the extra oil won't hurt anything

When a 806 does sit and everything is working, you will hear the hydrualics whinning, sucking air, pumping it where it needs to go, but i never did have any trouble with replacing pumps etc, and i bought mine new, but if you don't have any power steering and it's had time to warm up, chances are one of your pumps is bad. Definitely run it 5 gal over fill on the dipstick down by the brakepedal's !

raise the rpms, try turning the steering wheel and operating the hydraulic levers at the same time, I think that is the combination to help it prime, brothers 806 does that sometimes

I had the same problem on my 756 a while back. I changed the hydraulic filter and lost prime to the steering and my tractor wouldn't move because the ta is out on the low side. I was told to take the 5/8 inch bolt on the back of the mcv valve(points towards the back tire) and start the tractor and run until oil shoots out. Be ready to shut down quickly. I did this and it picked up prime and the steering worked and the tractor moves like it should.

It will make a big mess when it catches prime. I wedged a bucket behind this bolt with a garbage bag stuffed inside. I had the bucket tilted so it would hold more oil. It worked great...it caught all of the oil.

No steering and no brakes HUMM, Ok so you done changed the filter , did you replace the filter gskt and did you flatten out the bolt holes on the filter cover ?? Net like said over fill with a extra five gal. , Now run the engine at around 2100 RPM and turn the steering wheel to the LEFT and keep turning it as this will help bleed any air that is trapped , yes you can pull the 5/8th head plug out of the back side of the MCV BUT i am here to tell ya once it does pick up prime you will not GET IT SHUT DOWN BEFORE YOU DUMP FIVE GALLON ON THE GROUND . You can also remove the dip stick and take a rag and a blow gun and pressurize the transmission with the engine running and force prime , BUT here again a word to the wise here once it does pick up prime DO NOT remove the rag till all the pressure is gone Because it will shoot Hytran twenty five feet in the air , don't ask . Now as to the fact do you need a new MCV pump , can't say as before i replace any Hyd pump i first test them for flow and pressure . and if i do have to remove a MCV to replace a pump i go thru the MCv and replace all o/rings and gskts and check how well all the valves float in there bore and install a new MCV spring kit and then reset pressures as you have to check pressure once the pressure regulator spring has been changed and set for the tractor your working on .
