IH I9 Tractor for sale

1940's I9 tractor for sale. Can anyone help me with suggested pricing? This was used to clear brush in the 1960's and 1970's. Did a great job. Has not been started in some time, though. Any help will be appreciated. Tractor is located in Northern Nevada.

Well since its been sitting outside that could be bad. Sitting in a barn would be one thing, but how many years has it been sitting? Water tends to get into the transmission and rear end from sitting out. I once had a tractor with quite a bit of rust in the transmission from sitting outside.
If its stuck, and I would be amazed if it weren't, then you'll likely need to tear down the motor and hone the cylinders, and rering the pistons.
Odds are the trans and rear end are fine, and a ring job will do it. Given the somewhat rarity of a I-9, I suppose it could be worth $1500 to the right person. But typically a non running and stuck Farmall from the 40's is worth $500-$800 to me.

Edit; it looks like theres no rain cap on the exhaust. So the motor is likely going to need an extensive overhaul. The pistons could be rusted to the sleeves quite badly.

Thanks for the reply. It did turn over and run, but that was several years ago. And thanks for pointing out the lack of rain cap. A good year of rain for us is a total of about 5", but I will put a cap on it in a day or two.

I'm selling it, if I can. Years ago I already got all the enjoyment out of it any human should be allowed to have. I was working on it about 8 hours per day, some sleep and then graveyard shift in the mine for my summer job. As I stated, this is in Nevada and thing don't get really wet here at all.

If you have the money and can get one piston and one sleeves out of it there are custom machine shops out there that can make you new pistons and sleeves.

(quoted from post at 00:42:44 05/29/15) Keep in mind, I-9 pistons and sleeves are not made by anyone as far as I know. What are you looking to use it for?

There is a supplier for complete 9-series piston & sleeve sets in Ontario if anyone is looking for them. I think the supplier is having them reproduced somewhere for resale.......they are expensive!

I think you could ask about 1500, but 1000 might be a more likely sum. Now, if it's not locked up and you could get it running 2-3k would be more what I would expect. With the tires flat and having sat for several years, I'd wager they're toast. To the right person though you may be able to get more.

You can always ask more and see what they chew you down to.
