F-20 trouble

Pulled the carb of my good running F-20 to do some repair to cracked block , carb sat off and upright for a few days, put new carb to manifold gasket on and now it won't start. Will fire up when using priming cups but won't run . Pulled bottom of carb bowl off to look at check valve and it and the float are working correctly . Fuel is getting to carb but not to manifold. What am I missing?

Remove the air intake tube off the carb and while spinning it over to start hold your hand over the air intake of the carb. You should both feel a good suction and get gas on your hand when doing that. Doing that will tell you if you have a vacuum leak in the carb to manifold or a clogged main jet In the carb. Shoot it might even try to start when you do that

Thanks Old, got the air intake tube off and tried to start it yesterday, but nothing. Didn't try holding my hand over intake tho. Just can't believe something clogged that quick, was thinking about a vacuum problem but wasn't sure.

Old they always told me to never spin an engine with a crank as that is a good way to get a broken arm. F-20's did not come with a factory starter. Also it takes very long arms to put your hand over air intake of carb and pull up on crank.

Are you sure that the governor connection is lined up? Sometimes when not
lined up it can stay closed or wide open, drop the crab with the governor connection
still attached and move the throttle open and closed checking each time to see
that the butterfly is opening and closing. If it doesn't open you found it, can also just remove the
governor connection and check alignment.

Well that is why one some times needs help. My JD B one has to have 2 people to do the same test. As for hand cranks and broken arms etc. BTDT and went to the hospital due to a A/C B kicking back. JD had the safer way to start one since there is no way you can get hurt much if any when spinning a flywheel

Are you sure your new gasket is made right. In other words did you make it and maybe not get intake hole cut? Just an outside possibility.

Yes, the Carb to manifold gasket came from Rice . I pull the carburetor apart again last night found nothing clogged or wrong, I'm thinking it just needs a good pull start.

My Twin City will not start just by choke and hand cranking if it has sit for a while. But if I prime it and add two thirds choke, it will start. Seems like the cylinder gets dry and loses it sealing ability. Or something like that. You have fuel, for some reason it's not sucking it up to the cylinder. Have you tried pull starting?
