My son recently bought a 1466 . Just started using it a little bit and the steering stopped working. The brakes are a little soft but are definitely there just wondering what would you look at the pump first or how can I tell if it is the hand pump .any ideas on the subject would be appreciated

First check oil level then add 5 gallon over full. Change filter if not done already. If you have a gage you could put it in the line with a tee to check pressure. Does the PTO and hydraulics work correctly? If not then with the plate removed from under the clutch look up in there with a light to see if the rear shaft looks to be turning. If it is turning then probably move on to the MCV removal. If not turning then time to split and replace shaft and pressure plate in clutch. The pump you want is on the inside of the MCV (multiple control valve). That is on the left side by the step if no cab if cab will be in the same location just more pain to get to under the battery.
Symptoms would help some for diagnosis. Could also just be a gasket or o-ring in the MCV needing changed. Pulling the MCV there are 4 bolts in the middle making a vertical rectangle those hold the pump on take those out last after MCV is off tractor.
