New IH 240 owner

Shortmeadow

New User
Hello, I am new to the forum and a first time tractor owner. I aquired an IH 240 recently from a friend. He said it is a 63' . I would like to be sure of this. How could I find out what year it is? Once I figure out the exact year, I would be interested in any pictures you all would be willing to share of yours. It has a few issues I will be working to fix, then I would like to make sure it is all as original as I can make it. Not sure I will be making it "show quality", just as accurate to the year as I can get.
Thank you!

If you can find the serial number plate there are tables to look up tractors by serial number. I believe there is a table somewhere on this site but if not its easy to Goggle. Not sure where to look for serial
number on a 240.

It's NOT a '63.

Go to the site linked below, and scroll down to "240 serial numbers".

There's even a link to a photo of where the serial number should be.

There is a date code on the major castings.. Looks like this: *11*14*D* D = 1958;E,59;F,60;G,61.The SN list is on the left side of this page.SN plate is on the left side of the clutch housing. BTW,buy a set of books,ASAP.

here is my 240. it was originally a Chisolm Ryder string bean harvester, so the emblems and roll bar are things I added.
