Update on the Super M and 706 Question

I was over at the old fellows house today with the Super M TA. He does in fact still have the original wide front. Just had the W9 front put on to use the loader on round bales. Makes it a little more interesting. I'll try to get pics tomorrow.

On another note, he also has a pretty nice 706 gas. It has set in a shed for a few years as well. Put some gas and a battery and it fired right up. Runs good. Problem is the a power steering line right underneath the radiator started leaking and the tractor won't turn to the left. Hyd oil squirting out from right underneath the radiator. It turns right, but nothing to the left. Does anyone know if the line, which I assume has a rusted hole in it, can be found? Through all the oil and grease it appears to go from the PS pump in front of the radiator along the frame and to the pump about midway on the clutch side of the tractor. What sort of job to get the radiator out and the line switched? Thanks again for the good information - Bob

Not too bad of a job to pull the radiator. However it would help to have a second person to help lift out. The rusted line can be repaired. Either braze a patch over the hole,or simply cut the line at the hole and use a common brass compression coupler.A new line can be made by a hydralic shop,or make up a hydralic hoes. There are plenty of junk 706/806 etc tractors out there to get a good used line from.

There is a company that advertises in Red Power magazine called NewHydraulics that makes new lines for older tractors. Their phone number is 920-231-0124. NewHydraulics.com

Hey Steve, will the radiator come out without taking the heavy cast front off? Thanks - Bob

This is a common thing that happens when people done clean there tractors . The line runs under the rad. and has a foam sorta Gskt between the bottom of the rad and the bolster for air flow reasons and dirt and moister collect around this and end up rusting this line , Not a really big deal as alot of times one can remove tis line and have the small hole brazeed over and your good to go as i have done many . Now it the line is toast then IF you have the toys to play wioth you can make up a new line yourself as all ya need is some steel Hyd line two fitting and a tubing bender and a flaring tool and again i have made a few . Next ya need to go by S/N if youyr ordering one new and yes the last i checked and they still had them . But back to S/N then tractors with the C 263 and D 282 engines takes a shorter line then the later ones with the C291 and D 310 engines as they are ABOUT two inches longer . They can be removed and replaced with out taking the rad. out most times.

The rad can be blocked up a few inches with a block and rage for cushion and not pulled clear out. Are you sure it is not the seals in the front casting not a line. The whole steering mechanism is in the front casting under the cap you will see when you lift the rad up. There are o-rings and an oil seal in there. I had to do that on my 806 about 30 years ago.
