fiber striker rubbing part of points on a farmall 123 engine

Has any one ever had the fiber rub part of the points, that runs against the distributer shaft; ware down in less than 6 months of first firing up the engine.
It wore down so fast that the .020 gap vanished causing the points not open.
Can any one assist me with information, sugestions, past experience, mind sharing these with me, I'm mildly perplexed since years ago I drove a swedish car that had a similar type of points that didn't ""seam to ware out"".
Thank you
Wm.

Three causes, or a mix of these: Bad cheap rubbing block material. No lubrication, rough distributor cam.
New Echlin or Bluestreak points.
Put distributor cam lube on the rubbing block, or a dab on the cam so it wipes it when it comes around.
Use very fine 600 grit paper and polish the cam. Shiny, not smaller. Jim

Thank you Jim. I will re check the cam, polish it with 600 grit. The kit was through A&I, and I have found a ""few discrepancies"" with some materials purchased through them. NOT MANY just one or two. Wondering if I ordered points that could be ""TRANSFURRED"" from one type of engine to an other, ie., 1973 Volvo B 23 auto engine to ihc 123 tractor engine. As I remember the 73 B 23 had hollow pionts while the ihc 123 has solid points.
Any thoughts Jim.
Thank you again for your information, I will check this distributer thoroughly as soon as it quits raining here in the London Ontario area.

Points interchangeability between the IH distributor and any other would be pretty unlikely. If they opened the same amount with the dwell set correctly, and had the same rubbibg block location (timing) the Hole or flat would make no difference. Jim

"As I remember the 73 B 23 had hollow pionts while the ihc 123 has solid points."

Intended application has NOTHING to do with the stationary point having a "hole", or NOT.

The "hole" AKA "ventilated point" is a marketing gimmick for high-end replacement points that may or may not actually live longer

Thank you for your direction and advice. Hope fully this week we will have clear weather, no rain, so I can tackle looking at the cam shaft in the distributer.
Thank you again, will do an up date when completed.
