Diesel Fuel Line

So, in doing a final cleaning of the fuel lines before installing the new lift pump on my British 444, I noticed that the fuel line is cracking from the flare at the tank fitting for about two inches. The part isn't easily replaced with an off the shelf part. Since the tractor is gravity fed from the tank to the water separator, is there any issue with me using rubber or plastic fuel line as long as it is diesel compatible?

I would also like to cut in an inline fuel filter as an added layer of protection until I get the time to do a proper job of the fuel tank.

Thoughts? Pics of conversions? My only concern is the banjo fitting at the water separator.

No need for the inline filter your regular filters will do the job. As for the line if it has cracked you could just take a new line if it is flared expand one end just a bit so it will slip over the old one. then cut the old line back from your banjo fitting. then by soldering the 2 together you would have a new and reasonably inexpensive line on there.
By soldering it on the tractor the orientation for the ends will be right( no binding or twisting).

Thanks Caterpillar guy. What I ended up doing was something similar. It turns out the line was also clogged with rust from the tank (previous owner's poor maintenance) so I ended up having to cut more off than just the flared part. I had a local shop make up a custom hose using the banjo fitting half from my pipe and a custom rubber one to the tank. Hopefully I get a chance to install it today or tomorrow to see if I have solved my problems.

Cost wasn't too bad: $35 cdn for it, compared to $25 USD delivered to the border 45 minutes drive away......

I got the new custom fuel line installed on Friday night in the dark and rain..... The fuel flowed fast. The new transfer pump primed the system quickly. A quick bleed of the line and it started up. I only ran it for 10 minutes to top up the battery.

I ran it Saturday for over an hour with not a problem. Hopefully I finally solved the problem. Time to borrow a brush hog and see if I can mow for a couple of hours without stalling I guess.
