Magnet on back of alternator

The magnet on the back of friend alternator is magnetize all the time. Switch on or off magnet still sticks. He told me battery also goes down, I told him that the 6 volt to 12 volt conversion is probably wired wrong. I have not checked it out myself but I have done several conversions and never had this problem. The only time it should be magnetize is when the engine is running. He just purchased this tractor Farmall Cub.

You're likely correct. The only way to determine for sure is to take off the hood and trace out the wiring harness.

We need to know what model of alternator it is (photo would do) to assess the issue. smae one wire devices can go from bad to worse internally. some are just fine. 3 Wire systems must have a diode or resistor (10 ohm) or parking lamp (not LED typr) in the circuit that feeds the #1 terminal (The last info concerns delco 10SI alts. jim
