Electronic conversion

Wanting to know if anyone has converted their distributor using the petronix electric conversion kit. The horizontal distributor seems like a real pain to change points and condenser. Wondering how difficult a job this is and what it entails before spending 100 bucks

I have converted 2 old tractors and my jeep. Would never go back. On my SMTA I removed the distributor to install the ei conversion. Just be sure to get the right one for your tractor as it is, ie pos or neg ground, 6 or 12 volt. If you have any problems installing contact pertronix, get their advice not from anyone here or a friend "who should know"

I Converted a 1968 IH 140, a 1971 IH 140, and a 1977 Cub to Petronix EI's bought from this site about 15 yrs ago. No more fooling around with points and condensers for me and I've increased the spark plug gaps.

i put the petronix in my 1945 w4, starts right up in half a second, switched tractor over to 12 volts and did the alternator conversion . best move ever.

Mark the distributor and the housing, and then remove the distributor from the tractor. Do the work in a more comfortable environment. If you make sure to re install the distributor with the rotor in the identical position as it was when removed, it should start.

I put mine in on my 300 and never removed the distributor. Went in very easy. Love it!!!! Starts very easy and runs great. Much better than the points I had in that seemed to require cleaning every month I wanted to start it.

I did my Dad's Farmall H & his McCormick Super W6, my Farmall 400 & W450. The H gave us some grief, Pertronix stood behind there 30 month warranty with no issues. Points & 6 volts went out with the ark.

They make them for 6 volt systems also.

Point lovers, this isn't a thread for you.

I would go ahead and just do the full 12V system while I was at it. I HIGHLY LOVE my Pertronix 12V coil on my Super M. It starts and runs awesome!
