424 bad ground

Tractor started backfiring and losing power while bush hogging . Would run fine until under load . Tried all the usual and nothing helped . Cleaned the battery ground and runs like a sewing machine. Never run across that one before, has anyone else ?

Yup. Bad battery ground cable and/or connections can cause a number of different symptoms. So often discovered in desperation after striking out on a lot of other hoped for fixes. Battery cables and connections should be near the top of the troubleshooting and maintenance list.

True. But would you know that it is not even listed as something to check in the troubleshooting section of the manual . At least under section concerning missing, loss of power, etc .

I wonder if designers and builders of those bright new machines ever dreamed they would last for 50 years or however long enough for rust and corrosion to become a problem.
