M Oil Filter Housing

Can someone tell me if this is an early oil filter housing? If so, which oil filter do I need? I think the standard Fram is a 136A? Thanks in advance. I'm not a Farmall expert by any means..

I never used a Fram filter in my life. The main difference in M oil filters, is the diameter of the bolt down the center, if it's the bigger bolt, it's the older filter, tractor, the newer M After serial number 59394 and if it's got the original motor, it will be the smaller bolt, consequentially the smaller hole in the filter!

It's the older 'fat' filter. Just go to NAPA and tell them you have an M farmall. They have a book and can look it up. You don't need to do their job for them.If they give a 1125 filter,it's the wrong one.1125 is the tall skinny one. You need the other one. If in doubt, take the old one in with you as a sample.they can also cross the fram number to NAPA,WIX....BTW,go talk the old guy who still knows how to read a book, not the young guy who only knows computers.

You really cant go by SN on those. many have been changed. I have an older M with the newer style filter.I also have an a SMTA with the older fat filter.

Yours appears to be the short fat one. Not sure when the change happened. The newer M's had this filter I believe. The tall skinny ones were on the earlier M's. My 49 has the skinny one. So presuming the change was after, or mine was converted back to the older one.
