560 TA Clutch adjustment

I'm in the middle of replacing my ta's clutch/pressure plate. I have the blue ribbon manual for the ta - so going by that... they say the top of the fingers should be 3 3/8 high - that's with the clutch unit all bolted together.

Mine's at about 3 1/2 right now. I'm about to adjust it down, but it seems like a lot as it'll bring the high point of the fingers almost even with the adjusting nuts... maybe that's normal... but I get nervous with old manuals, not knowing if they're covering my year of tractor...

And the adjustment nuts on the fingers have paint applied on one side, making me think I shouldn't have to be messing with them.... Like they were pre-set at the right height.

I searched and found a video on youtube where the guy was measuring after installed, between the fingers and the release bearing - but I'm not finding that particular spec in my manual.

Am I over-thinking this?

Anybody done this before?

I can't seem to edit - so disregard most of the last post -

the paint on the nuts is what made me pause and question things - but it didn't make sense that it could be preset accurately, so I did set them to the 3 3/8 spec.

done for the night - but wondering about that video and the 3/8 gap to the release bearing.

So I'm curious how other people set these. Just get it close enough so the linkage works and is adjustable?

If you have a New/ Rebuilt PPA for the T/A then it should be already preset on finger height so DON'T MESS WITH IT they are a plug and play out of the box , that's why the paint drops . So if you have a problem and yoou end up sending it back and they see the paint drops cracked they know you got your grubby little fingers in there messing with it . Just bolt it up and don't mess with it . And tryen to make you outside adjustments BY THE BOOK will probable not go as planed due to the amount of FIELD testing the tractor has gone thru in it's life time The only Factor set i do is main clutch free travel and the rest is set by FEEL and visual as long as i have and air gap on the T/A throw out bearing and good T/A lever movement and no T/A binding while in the high side and you can shift the gear shift with ease with the clutch pedal pushed down and no double shift onec the tractor starts to move your good to go .

Uh oh- I was afraid of that! :)

Too late - I got my grubby fingers on it.

I'm going to assemble it and see how things look at the book spec. I know the height they were set at from the factory, so I can get back to that if need be.
