Splitting Farmall Super H

Greetings!

I have installed the splitting stand (thank you, Charlie) and have cribbed the rear end. I have removed the eight "peripheral bolts around the engine block, the three bolts just forward of the oil pan, and the two bolts near the starter. All interference has been removed so, I think that I am ready to split.

Two questions:

1. Do I need to do anything to the drive shaft before the tractor can be split. It looks like the shaft is "splined" on the clutch side and should slide out once I move the tractor forward. Is this correct?

2. What do need to do to break the "seal" between the block and the dry tube in order to make the split easier? I do not want to take the chance of cracking the areas where the bolts engage the dry-tube and block. In other words, can you give me any tips on actually splitting the tractor.

This has been an amazing journey thus far and I am glad that I have a lot of folks willing to help me, a rookie, in all of this.

Thanks in advance!

You have the hidden bolt out behind the starter? Leave atleast one bolt on each side in the hole to support the engine when it is seperated. Then just wiggle till a gap appears. then take a large srrewdriver or prybar and work it apart. don't need to do anything to the splined shaft. Just roll it apart.

When you put it back together, get a couple of long(4 to 6") bolts. Cut the heads off and screw one into each side as a guide(alignment dowels).Makes it a lot easier to put it together. I like to use one longer bolt one one side. Easier to stab one bolt first, then the second.Once you do it,you'll understand.

Two dowel pins with coarse threads showing in front of the rear engine plate can be tight. If no one has hammered them and messed the threads up a nut and maybe some washers can be used to remove them. If they start spinning before pulling full out put a thin bar between nut and pry out or turn with pry pressure to remove. Washer helps then. Don't have to be removed but usually makes it easier if out. If it's a SH with starter on the left two bolts with 3/4 inch heads need removed that screw into the engine. If starter is on the right of center line one bolt is in front of the starter like Delta Red posted. If I remember correct on the SH with hydraulic unit on top of center housing the unit needs moved or one 3/4 head bolt turned out as engine is moved forward. Still tight doing that.
