How hard is it to find the pulley for the Charlynn power steering on an H or can a guy fab something up easily? thanks chris

I'm not going to let gene sit here and troll you.

No matter how hard you search on google, you can't buy the pulley from Char-Lynn. They don't exist as a separate company anymore. Eaton owns them now, and Eaton only sells through distributors.

While Eaton still makes the torque generators, they do not make any of the other parts for power steering conversions. Most of the parts can be had aftermarket through the more popular aftermarket tractor parts websites, but it appears that there is no longer a pulley made specifically for the H.

The pulley for the M might fit, but I don't know that for sure.

What pulley are you looking for? Could be wrong but if it's a crankshaft pulley, don't think charr lynn used or made one for a H. Pump was driven from the generator pulley and required a hole in hood for top of pump reservoir. Longer belt went from top of generator pulley to top of pump pulley on upper side of loop. If pump pulley is needed you can find them.

digging thru my parts books, there is a notr on the 760 series pumps. the 558 pulley was replaced by part number 20833 pulley which is a larger diameter, it does not give the diameters tho. if i remember i will measure the pulleys. you may end up getting a weld a hub pulley set up and make your own.

Thanks BarnyardEngineering & D Slater, I am not familiar with IH power steering systems and was just asking like anybody else would for some assistance. I assumed it was driven from the crankshaft but don't have the system is my hands yet and am going from what I was told right or wrong. And Gene, well I'm sorry I not as intelligent as you are or have the resources that you do.

Thanks for your time and effort glennster, will be asking most of you for help once I get the system. chris

I put power steering on my Farmall H a few yrs ago and sure do love that setup.I mounted my pump to where it runs off the water pump-gen. belt. Built my own oil tank. Had to get wedge { from Steel Wheel Ranch} for the torq. gen. to keep steering shaft straight. Makes for a real useful tractor as I have a belly mower mounted.

I installed a power steering unit on a Farmall H last winter. The customer did not want a hole cut in the hood so I relocated the oil reservoir over where the gas starting tank was located on the early tractors. I had to make an adapter for connecting the hose from the reservoir to the pump. The shaft size on the pump is 17mm that is the same size that Delco uses for it's generators and alternators on a lot of tractors.

The Char-Lynn setup is driven off an add-on crankshaft pulley on the M/400/450 series tractors, but not sure about the smaller H. I don't think power steering was too common on those because they steer so easy by nature.
