Farmall A stops when it needs power.

Tried everything with carb. No rev when ether sprayed on manifold. Will idle fine, but whenever I need power to drive it, it stops. Frustrated. Any ideas where to start next? What else can go wrong?

So this engine stalls when you try to drive the tractor? Can you rev the engine by pulling on the carburetor linkage or are you relying on the throttle lever to rev the engine. I'm wondering if the governor is the problem. Be careful pulling on the carburetor linkage as it is close to the generator belt.

I'd start with some simple trouble shooting.
#1 Check and make sure you have a good blue/white spark at all the plug wires that will jump a 1/4 inch gap or more. Weak spark can act like carb problems.
#2 pull the carb drain plug and make sure you have a good steady flow of gas that will fill a pint jar in less then 3 minutes. Also if it is the type with the cap over the main jet pull it and make sure you have a good flow of gas out of it.
#3 when was the last time you serviced the air cleaner and dumped the mud and water out of it and fill it with fresh oil

With it running is it blowing out black smoke or little or no smoke?? If you take the top off the air cleaner and the oil cup off can you see down the air cleaner like you should be able to do?? What do the spark plugs look like?? Have you tried the hand over the air intake to make sure you have the 2 things I said you need??

What old said under number 2 of his reply. If the tractor has set a lot likely crud is blocking the inlet to the sediment bowl. Explain what ...trying everything with the carb...means? If that means just turning the adjustment screws there is way more to it than that. Not trying belittle your knowledge I just have to ask because I have no idea what you have done to remedy the problem.
