Splitting Stands

Just thought I'd share a picture of the splitting stands I made, since they worked out so well -

very easy to make - each one is just two pieces of 2x2 1/4" angle iron with about a 6"x8" piece of 1/4 plate welded to the back side at the top - and a trailer jack bolted between the two
angle irons at the bottom.

The jacks are rated at 1000 pound each.

I was a little worried about the plastic wheels, but seems I was wasting my time worrying.

The jacks each only require about 1/4 turn to lift the tractor as you see it here. Pretty easy to roll it and position it.

I added some lighter weight angle iron - like 1x1 in a cross pattern for extra stability, but not sure I really needed it - but easy enough. that just bolts in place to make storage easier.

Might be better designs out there - but the question of splitting stands seems to come up from time to time, so just figured I'd add mine - like I said, very easy to make.

For the front I'm just using wood blocks to support it - I also welded up some "kick stands" that bolt to the front of the tractor and each reston on the axles (it's a wide front) to keep
the engine from tipping. I'll make something more secure to eliminate the wood blocks and support the engine better - but that worked well enough for me this time anyways.

Not the greatest picture -but you can use your imagination - nothing complicated about them.

Neat, i made mine for the front, out of some M engine rails, bolted them where i wanted them, and then welded in a cross piece the right height for a floor jack to go under . got a commerical one for the rear half !

My stand supports the front half. That way I can safly split a single or narrow front tractor. The rear is supported by a simple hydralic
jack and blocks.

I also put the wheeled screw jacks on the front half and blocked the rear when splitting my 350. This allows the front half to be easily adjusted for just the right elevation and angle when going back together. And, like you say, it creates stability spite of a narrow front end or in my case, an oscillating wide front.

I made mine to be universal. They have been on 'everything' from a Super C to a 4520 JD. They are current holding up a 1586. A 4020 and 544 are waiting...?..

I used a couple of old channels about a foot wide to bolt to the frame with a short piece of tubing welded to the bottom ends of the channels. For the rear I just use blocks. This way the sky trac holds carries the front half to give me more room for the rear half or vice versa. I can carry the front half of a 1466 with them. The forks go just under the front axle so the whole thing rests on the forks and the channels. The channels also keep it from tipping sideways this way.
