H Shredder Question

I have the opportunity to pick up a 3-point conversion for my 51H. How big a shredder will an H handle? Will I need to consider front mounted counterweights if I put a shredder on this tractor?

What are you going to shred, something 5 inches tall or 15 inches tall, i got a 120 in woods mower, it's a single wing ditch mower, never used it on cornstalks, but, when the grass has to bend under the front axle,on a Super MTA, that's max, it wont handle it in 1st gear, with the TA back, and if you got to slip the clutch, your doing it wrong, and you dont have live PTO on that H, so i wouldn't even try it! In fact the 806 has got over a 100 hp, that work's a lot better!

I'd put a 6 ft so you can mow out most of your real tire tracks. You may need a little added weight on the front. Tractor should pull it O-K.

I have a Lillitson 6-0 shredder on my 1950 H with a 3 point hitch. Cut about 6 acres of 3-0 high hay with no problem. My land is not flat either. No front counterweight.

(quoted from post at 21:18:48 10/15/18) That looks like a pull type to me!

Yes it is. However it is attached to my 3 point hitch. Only about half the weight is lifted when I raise the hitch so this may not apply to the OP.

we had a H with a 5 ft lilliston mowhawk bush hog. CAUTION!!! you need an overrunning clutch/coupling. the H pulled it fine in most stuff but if you push in the clutch to stop without an overrunning coupler you will get pushed until the blades stop.

Unless you have the foresight and coordination to reach down and disengage the PTO.

Of course, it's a HORRIBLE idea to depend on that in a panic situation where you may not have the clarity of mind to reach down, so yeah, get an overrunning clutch.
