putting a block back together with used parts out of shop ,,all the parts came out of blocks with cast number 354898.........the lifters i took out of the motor im building were rough so i grabbed some out of shop ,didnt really look at them cause i thought they were all the same..when i went to install push rods they were really rough also..so i grabbed some out of shop, they were smaller in diameter than the ones i took out ..and i noticed they had a hole that ran thru the push rod..i never noticed that before..all the others big or small diameter dont have the hole thru center..one of the push rods that have the hole was bent...so i went to use a big diameter push rod and it feels like its not going into lifter...are there two sized lifters, big and small hole for push rods...and whats up with the push rod with hole thru center ....school me please,,,,an thanks as always,,,,,,,,dewy

maybe you have some GM pushrods in shop you grabbed. hyd. lifters use pushrods with the hole in centre.
the oil travels through the pushrod to lube the rockers and valves.

jim the parts diagram isnt giving me sizes on my computer.small diameter or larger diameter..were does it say size of lifters...may need a set of smaller push rods..a little scared of using theses with hole plus one is bent..they do feel light, but i know they came out of a 354898 block ,i took apart a year ago.......i will pay attention better next time when putting lifters in an make sure push rods fit lifters.......dewy

rustred the push rods and motor parts were together in tuberware, but i did notice the the rods were not ih rods..but all parts were out of 354898 block.......thanks dewy

Parts info never has sizes of parts, just numbers. Pushrods from thousands of engine designs use tubular pushrods. IH never did on these engines. But from the thousands in junk yards, some will be perfect replacement for that engine, though not OEM. I would not use them because one is bent and you do not know what they came out of originally.
