Hello: we have a 300U partially tore down looking for boogered cam keyway and just noticed the crank pully is not the stock pully and it has extra timing marks like a total of four, does anyone have a stock one to check before I tear further? the timing seems to be off as it wont run good anywhere its set. this one was part of a Wagner front end loader kit and im thinking it was made to fit more than farmalls with extra marks?

I would verify, by pulling out #1 plug and shining an LED flashlight into the port, that when turning the engine by hand, you can see the piston crown hit the apex of its stroke, and at that point, that the timing marks are somewhat close to the stationary indicator. If that test fails then the crank pulley is not correctly set.
Before you set distributor timing there, its advisable to pull the rocker cover and look at both the intake and exhaust valves. There are two times that TDC is reached in the combustion cycle spanning 2 revs of the crank. Only one of these is proper to set the ignition timing. The #1 cyl intake and exhaust valves will be "quiet" on both sides of the "correct TDC", as opposed to movement observed right around the "incorrect TDC".

Thanks! You tripped my brain and I borrowed 2 old owners manuals with a wealth of information in them. They go into setting the time in detail and also maintance of the timing advancing system, I have to slow the rpm's down to below 375 as above that it start advancing which will give a wrong/false setting then proceed to set the timing . Next I have to take the power steering off and see where its leaking from and fix that! Thanks for the help finding the right manuals!
