super c valves and valve guides

took valves out of head ..noticed a clip that was on valve stems,was on valve stem right above valve seat,,,is that where they are supposed to be or in the grove on stem under keeper grove....clip is wire and shape of liberty bell if that makes sense..will try to get pic up tomorrow..what are there purpose an location....also where do i get valve guide driver and what size..measures 41/128 or 5/16....also missing one of those clips...can you still get them.........thanks as always........dewy
 
just read manual ,,clips go in groove to keep valve from dropping if spring broke.. still would like to know where to get driver an what size driver.....dewy
 
The danged "clip" is part # 42098D, NLA from FIAT, but Messicks thinks they can supply 'em, check it out.


A GOOGLE search will turn up some other options, as well, for that part number.

As to guide drivers. HOPEFULLY, you have a buddy with a lathe.

A good automotive machine shop will be able to get everything needed for a full cylinder head rebuild, including the tools needed to do it. Probably for less money than you would spend on purchasing those tools.
 
clips go into the grooves to prevent valves from dropping but many time i have seen them out of the groove, must have jumped out i presume. the springs should be checked for tension and if weak replaced. i have put together heads without the clips also.
