New Alternator for B

After doing some checking with a volt meter I don't think my alternator is charging anymore on my B (battery output is the same voltage not running and running mid-throttle). Currently the tractor has a Delco 1102480 61 amp on it. What do you folks recommend for a three wire alternator? I would like to stick with the three wire based on previous comments on here about one wires. I have never had to replace an alternator on anything before, so asking for opinions. Or maybe I am better off finding a shop to rebuild my existing? Thanks

Take the alternator to an auto parts store and have it tested. If it is defective, they can probably match it up with a factory rebuilt unit for less than the cost of having it repaired.

I had them go bad on two of my tractors after being installed for about 25 years. I replaced one but the second I took to an alternator shop I had just found. Cost was about the same but I knew the shop did good work so I wasn't concerned about getting it right. I haven't heard bad stories about buying rebuilt alternators like you sometimes with other electronics so I would do what works best for your situation.

Original application was 1976 Corvette, Camaro, Chevy, Nova!

They are pretty easy to repair, lots of info on the 'net as to the details. Worn out brushes would be the most likely problem, easy fix, unless the slip ring(s) is damaged, or there's winding or rectifier issues.

Or, you should be able to exchange it for a re-man for about $45.

Ditto on Rusty's comment. Also,Go back with the same type of alternator. Changing alternator types may require some 'rewireing'.

When ever I do a alternator on a tractor I asked for one for a 1980 Chevy pickup no power anything no AC. They cost around $45 plus a core. 3 wire Delco 10SI at around 35amp which is over kill for a tractor

I have converted a number of them. I just go to an old auto salvage near me. The owner lets me have one for $15 if nobody is around and $25 if someone is watching.
They are not as plentiful as a few years ago. There is a shop here that rebuilds, but the cost is a bit more than Auto Zone. I have a few spares that I am not sure about.
